The Honourable Sean Fraser, our Minister of IRCC, announced a temporary measure in which, starting immediately, the temporary foreign workers can now be able to enroll in a program of more than 6 months in duration without a need to obtain a study permit.

Before this temporary measure, without obtaining a study permit a foreign worker could only enroll in a program of l6 months or less in duration. For longer-duration programs, they had to obtain a separate study permit.

This temporary measure has been implemented for 3 years starting today and foreign workers can study Full-time or Part-Time until their work permits are valid or until the expiry of this temporary measure.

This temporary measure applied to those foreign workers who hold a valid work permit or whose work permit extension applications are in process as on June 7, 2023. If in this case, the duration of the study is longer than the duration of their work permit, then they would need to apply for a study permit.
